South Carolina Hospice Settles False Claims Act Case

Two former employees of South Carolina based Harmony Hospice Care Inc. will receive a $224,529.87 award as part of a recently-announced settlement between Harmony and the Department of Justice.  The hospice and its owner, Daniel J. Burton, have agreed to pay $1.287 Million to settle allegations that they knowingly billed the United States Medicare program for patients who did not have a legitimate terminal diagnosis.
