Birmingham Magazine Names Jim Barger Among Top White Collar Practitioners

In Birmingham Magazine’s third-annual peer review survey of more than 4,000 local attorneys registered with the Birmingham Bar Association, Frohsin & Barger co-founder Jim Barger was given the highest accolade in the white collar area. Along with just ten other area practitioners, Jim was recognized as a “Top Attorney” for his work in government investigations and litigation. Barger is recognized as an innovator in handling government investigations, both as a defense attorney and as one of the few attorneys in the southeastern states who regularly guide clients through the complex area of False Claims Act whistleblower litigation. Among his most recognized accomplishments are the highly publicized acquittal at trial of Iranian-American Alex Latifi of ITAR and Arms Export Control Act violations, the groundbreaking reversal of the honest-services wire fraud conviction of Jeffrey Stayton on constitutional grounds, and the record 24.7 million dollar False Claims Act settlement with national hospice provider Southerncare. Also an adjunct professor at the University of Alabama School of Law, Barger teaches the upper level course on white collar practice.
