For-Profit Hospices Under Scrutiny: Bloomberg News

An article published  today by Bloomberg News  sheds a harsh light on the problems inherent in the for-profit hospice industry.  The article cites interviews with industry professionals and grizzly anecdotes from numerous lawsuits to confirm the obvious: that the goal of for-profits – making money – is in inescapable conflict with the proper goal of hospice care – providing comfort and palliation for terminally ill patients.  The article specifically identifies giants Vitas and Odessey/Gentiva as companies coming under increasing scrutiny.
