DME Fraud: False Billing for Phantom Shoe Inserts

A 79-year-old mother and her 48-year-old son, Lorraine and Park Levy, pleaded guilty Thursday in New York to fraudulently billing Medicare for custom shoe inserts for the elderly.  Lorraine solicited the beneficiaries and Park and his cohorts would show up and measure the beneficiaries’ feet with a ruler.  Thereafter the Levy’s would bill Medicare under the guise of Park’s DME company — Americare — for custom-molded inserts and simply give the patients off-the-shelf shoe liners.  The mother-son crime team will be sentenced on May 17, 2011.
