Parker, Arizona physician Kevin Klopfenstein allegedly submitted false bills to Medicare for Thoracic Electrical Bioimpedance (TEB) tests — also known as Biothoracic Impendance or BTI tests — and has agreed to pay $430,000 to settle pending False Claims Act litigation.  The litigation involved a dispute over whether patients given these tests were actually eligible for the Medicare benefit. Dennis Burke, U.S. Attorney for the District of Arizona, commented on the settlement, stating “the integrity of our Medicare system depends on the honest practices of doctors and other Medicare providers.”
